Tha Samaritan Woman Part 2

John 4:5-20
Eventually he came to a Samaritan village of Sychar, near the parcel of ground that Jacob gave his son Joseph. Jacobs well was there; and Jesus tired from the long walk, sat wearily beside the well around noontime. Soon a Samaritan woman came to draw water and Jesus said to her, Please give me a drink…

Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again.

The woman said to him, Sir, give me this water so that I won’t get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water…..

He told her,Go, call your husband and come back.”

I have no husband, she replied.

Jesus said to her, You are right when you say you have no husband. The fact is, you have had five husbands, and the man you now have is not your husband. What you have just said is quite true.

When the Samaritan woman asked Jesus to give her the water that will make her thirst no more, I can guess that she was excited and ready to make a change in her life. I can imagine that she was tired of trying to fill the void in her heart and tired of always feeling hopeless. So when Jesus told her about eternity, she thought she was ready to receive it.

However, Jesus asked the woman to go and bring her husband. Now you are probably asking yourself, what her husband has to do with anything, but Jesus was trying to make a point. You can’t move forward if you don’t clear up the junk from the past. It will come to back to haunt you every time.

So the woman’s attention was drawn to the problem she has. She  had five husbands and now she lived with a man that was not her husband. We can all be sure that this woman had a lot of emotional baggage that had to be dealt with.

What is your emotional baggage? What is keeping you from feeling fulfilled? What is nagging at you and making feel depressed?

The Samaritan Woman Part 1

The Bible is full of these analogies. As you read on in the story, you find that the woman has been married five times and then divorced. At the time Jesus met the Samaritan woman, she was living with a man that was not her husband.

What was this woman looking for that she did not find in five men? What Jesus was telling this woman is that she is hungering and thirsting for something that she will never find in another human being. Gods love.

In application to daily life. This means finding purpose for yourself and knowing what you stand for before you will ever be able to find fulfillment in a relationship with someone else. If you go searching form one person to the another to fill the void in your heart, you will be search forever and you will be disappointed everytime.

Take a minuet and ask yourself the following questions. What do I stand for in this life? When my friends, family and co-worker think of me, what words come to their mind? When was the last time I thought of my faith, beliefs and values?

My friend, take a minute and answer those questions, because I guarantee you will never find joy if you are not consciously aware of who you are.

The Old Woman Who Live in a Shoe

There was an old woman
Who lived in a shoe
She has so many children
She didn’t know what to do
She gave then some broth
Without any bread
She whipped them all soundly
And sent the to bed

Read the nursery rhyme above and picture this woman, she is a mother, a sister, a daughter. If you think you have never seen a woman like this. Go to your local high schools, go to the nearest low income housing building in your community, go to your local super market. There are women all around who look this woman. They are living in poverty and having children for men who do not want the responsibility.

It is time we acted as strong women. We need to tell teenage girls that it is not ok to get pregnant out of wedlock. We need to tell them to avoid risky behavior and we need to tell them that they deserve more than a guy who will profess love and sleep with them. Then walk away.

Think about this, are we really showing our young women how to love themselves to the point that they will not let anything or anyone come in the way of them finding physical, emotional and spiritual success?

The Samaritan Woman

John 4:5-20
Eventually he came to Samaria village of Sychar, near the parcel of ground that Jacob gave his son Joseph. Jacobs well was there; and Jesus tired from the long walk, sat wearily beside the well around noontime. Soon a Samaritan woman came to draw water and Jesus said to her, Please give me a drink. He was alone at the time because his disciples had gone into the village to buy some food.
The woman was surprised, for Jews refuse to have anything to do with Samaritans. She said to Jesus, You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. Why are you asking me for a drink?
Jesus replied “If you only knew the gift God has for you and who I am, you would ask me, and I would give you living water.
But sir you don’t have a rope or a bucket, she said, and this is a very deep well. Where would you get this living water? And besides are you better than this our ancestor Jacob who gave us this well? How can you offer better water the he and his sons and his cattle enjoyed?
Jesus replied, “People soon become thirsty again after drinking this water. But the water I give them takes away thirst altogether. It becomes a perpetual spring within them, giving them eternal life.
Please sir the woman said give me some of that water! Then I will never be thirsty again and I won’t have to come here to haul water.
Go and get your husband, Jesus told her. I don’t have a husband the woman replied.
Jesus said you are right! You don’t have a husband-for you have had five husbands ad you aren’t even married to the man you’re living with now.
Sir the woman said, you must be a prophet. So tell me why it is that you Jews say that Jerusalem is the only place to worship, while we Samaritans claim it is here at Mount Gerizim, where our ancestor worshiped?

My friends… he is risen!!!!

He died so that I might live

Today is Good Friday, but when you think of Jesus suffering and dying, it doesn’t seem like a very good died.

The Crucifixion
So the soldiers took charge of Jesus. 17Carrying his own cross, he went out to the place of the Skull (which in Aramaic is called Golgotha). 18Here they crucified him, and with him two others—one on each side and Jesus in the middle.

19Pilate had a notice prepared and fastened to the cross. It read:|sc JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS. 20Many of the Jews read this sign, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city, and the sign was written in Aramaic, Latin and Greek. 21The chief priests of the Jews protested to Pilate, “Do not write ‘The King of the Jews,’ but that this man claimed to be king of the Jews.”

22Pilate answered, “What I have written, I have written.”

23When the soldiers crucified Jesus, they took his clothes, dividing them into four shares, one for each of them, with the undergarment remaining. This garment was seamless, woven in one piece from top to bottom.

24″Let’s not tear it,” they said to one another. “Let’s decide by lot who will get it.”
This happened that the scripture might be fulfilled which said,
“They divided my garments among them
and cast lots for my clothing.”[a] So this is what the soldiers did.

25Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother, his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. 26When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, “Dear woman, here is your son,” 27and to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” From that time on, this disciple took her into his home.

The Death of Jesus

28Later, knowing that all was now completed, and so that the Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, “I am thirsty.” 29A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus’ lips. 30When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
